Andy Blackmore – Writer – Photographer – Picture Editor
I’m an experienced photographer, writer, and media professional with a deep belief in the power of photography to capture the “decisive moment.” As a seasoned Photo Editor, accomplished photographer, and problem solver, I’ve spent my career delivering high-quality content across both print and digital media. From film to today’s digital landscape, I’ve developed a versatile skill set in picture and video editing, content creation, and team leadership, working with global teams to meet tight deadlines and budgets.
My work spans a variety of platforms, from traditional print and online content to social media and mobile platforms, constantly adapting to technological changes and shifting audience needs. In addition to my photography, I’m a writer for Amateur Photographer magazine, City A.M., and StreetPhotography.com, covering topics from tech to the intersection of photography and life.
I’ve also held Picture Editor and content creator roles at Metro, City A.M., The Guardian, The Independent, and The Independent on Sunday. Beyond editorial, I’m a respected industry voice, having judged prestigious awards like the Amnesty International Media Awards and Nikon Press Awards, and provided expert commentary for television and radio, including BBC’s Newsnight and ITN. I’ve delivered lectures for the Parliamentary Labour Party and the Freedom Forum, and collaborated with John Pilger on the Barbican’s Reporting of the World Project. My photographic work has been exhibited at venues like The Spitz Gallery in London and The National Theatre, covering subjects from the 2004 Sri Lanka tsunami to urban life in Photographs for No Particular Reason.
