One at a time – a series of posts where I examine a single image. Today: Morse.
Christ, almost twenty-five years since I shot this one. But. And I hope you agree — it’s a cracker. If memory serves me right (and it probably doesn’t), this was shot at BAFTA. I’d been kept waiting ages for John Thaw and Kevin Whately. The usual platitudes: They’ll be here soon. Sorry. Soon, I promise.
Then they arrived, and I had maybe thirty seconds against a wall. OK, probably longer — but not much. And it felt shorter.
But I got the shot.
It’s worth noting that this was shot on film. Now, that used to make you pucker up, shooting a live job on film with no feedback. No safety net too. No chimping, no histogram, no second chances. Just nerves, instinct, and a little hope. Ah, those were the days.
